Volcanic rock subjected to a process of heating and subsequent cooling abruptly and crushed to obtain gravel. It has a vitreous appearance is solid and insoluble material.
Its name comes from the town of "Puzzuoli" at the foot of Vesuvius, Italy. Pozzolana is the name given to volcanic ash and stones that come from this town, but now known by this name a diversity of rocks, and volcanic sands and stones.
