What benefits we provide plant cover and what types of green roofs are constructed.
The green roofs are something as technical as decorative. It is well known that green roofs provide a visual improvement of cities, changing asphalt tile and a natural garden. A plant environment also fosters a sense of comfort and convenience, freeing claustrophobic feeling that can cause large buildings.
Others are not so well-known beneficial effects for the ecosystem. A green roof is able to thermally isolate outside a building. The insulation capacity, resulting in a feeling of comfort, and further stabilization of the temperature inside the building. These few centimeters of ground plant material and have the ability to isolate the heat in summer and cold in winter, which translates into a saving of air conditioning or heating.
The plants have a capacity of treatment of toxic particles in the air, either in the form of small solid particles or pollutants. This benefit is taken into account when installing a roof. It is also necessary to highlight the savings generated toxic due to manufacturing energy saving since thanks to better insulation of walls and roofs. An adequate topsoil also improves residual noise that gets trapped in the vegetation.
In times of heavy rain, the plant covers have the capacity to absorb more intensity peaks of water and release it gradually to the attacks. This withholding favors the rate of drainage of sewage, which is not so intensified now. Therefore, green roofs also encourage society to avoid the saturation of air evacuation systems.
Currently three types of roofs are built, according to their culture.
The cover ecological intensive type of cover is more substrate. It works like a large planter in which there may be any cultivated plant. We can find herbs, flowers, succulents, shrubs and even large trees.
Semi-intensive green cover is characterized to be a middle ground between the intensive and of succulents, with the addition of any type of medium size plant. They can be aromatic plants including decorative gardens and shrubs.
The cover ecological type is based on extensive planting succulents and low maintenance grass. Its main feature is the need for very thin substrate to obtain a good performance.
